If you live in a multi-level home, adjust the vents to evenly heat it. Partially close the vents on the upper level so more warm air will be directed to the lower level.
Have your roof inspected. Also inspect your roof for damages after storms and high winds.
Move furniture to change flow patterns in rooms to save wear and tear on carpets.
Have your heating and cooling systems professionally inspected.
After a big snow storm, be sure remove snow from roof.
Test, clean and replace batteries in smoke detectors.
Remove screens from windows and install storm windows.
Test all ground-fault-circuit-interrupter (GFCI) type outlets.
Lubricate interior door hinges.
Inspect tile for loose or missing grout, cracks, chips, or damaged caulking. Regrout if necessary. Replace or repair broken tiles. Caulk damaged areas if needed.
Inspect shower and tub doors for proper fit. Recaulk areas if needed.
Make sure all electrical holiday decorations have tight connections.
Inspect fencing for rust and standing water. Sand and paint rust spots and fill areas where water is standing.
