History

Pennbrook Homes' roots trace back to the origin of The Pennbrook Company, started in the mid-1980s. Don Bauhofer, founder of the company, gained recognition as a visionary for revitalizing old, vacant buildings in downtown Bend. As Bend grew in popularity, so did the demand for residential housing. Responding to this need, Don launched Pennbrook Homes in 1996.

In 2001, Steve Robertson came on board as president and partner. One of the key figures in the Hoyt Street Yards development in Portland's mixed-use Pearl District, Steve was well versed in innovative design.

With Steve at the helm, the company built one of the first 55+ communities in the area. The company then constructed a "mountain foothill" neighborhood in Eagle Crest, a popular golf resort just outside of Redmond in Central Oregon. Utilizing the talents of one of Seattle's top architects, this neighborhood brings a whole new level of design sophistication to the region.

The company is now pursuing a variety of ground-breaking projects that bring together cutting-edge design, a heightened sensitivity to the surrounding landscape, and an increasing focus on green building techniques.

“Our mission,” states Steve, “is to make meaningful contributions to communities by building neighborhoods that reflect intelligent design and offer a unique sense of place.”
